Hydrovac Excavation for Solar Installation in Maryville, Illinois

B&W Hydrovac and Site Solutions recently completed a hydrovac excavation project at First Baptist Church in Maryville, Illinois, helping prepare the property for the installation of a new rooftop solar array. As part of the project, our crew excavated a trench approximately 40 feet long, 3 feet wide, and 3 feet deep to provide the pathway needed for the new electrical hookups connecting the solar array to the church’s electrical system.

Rather than relying solely on conventional mechanical excavation, the trench was completed using hydrovac excavation. This method uses pressurized water to carefully break apart the soil while a powerful vacuum system removes the loosened material. The result is a controlled, precise excavation that is especially useful when working around existing utilities, electrical equipment, buildings, and other sensitive infrastructure.

As the photos show, this project required excavation directly alongside existing electrical equipment and within a relatively confined work area. Hydrovac allowed our crew to create the necessary trench while maintaining greater control over the excavation and reducing the risk of damaging surrounding underground infrastructure.

A Safer Way to Excavate Around Utilities

Projects involving electrical upgrades, solar installations, utility connections, and similar infrastructure often require excavation in areas where existing underground services may already be present. Hydrovac excavation provides a non-destructive alternative that can help expose and work around those utilities with greater precision than traditional digging methods.

From utility daylighting and trenching to electrical installations and site preparation, B&W Hydrovac and Site Solutions has the equipment and experience to tackle challenging excavation projects throughout Central and Southern Illinois.

This Maryville project is another example of how hydrovac excavation can provide an efficient, precise solution while helping keep the surrounding property and infrastructure protected.
